What is GoHighLevel? Features and who it's for

Short answer

GoHighLevel (the company now calls itself HighLevel) is an all-in-one CRM, marketing and automation platform: contacts, sales pipelines, texting, email, calls, calendars, funnels, reviews and AI in one login. It was built for agencies running many clients' accounts, and a single business uses it by running its own business inside one of those accounts.

Plans are $97, $297 or $497 a month with unlimited users, and calls, texts, email and AI are billed on top. You'll also see it written as Go High Level or GHL. Facts below come from gohighlevel.com and HighLevel's help center, checked October 21 and 22, 2026. We ran sales teams on GoHighLevel for five or six years, with hundreds of reps through it, so some of this is first-hand.

What is GoHighLevel used for?

GoHighLevel is used to capture leads, follow up with texts and emails automatically, book appointments, track deals in a pipeline, and collect reviews, all from one login. HighLevel sorts its own tools into five stages: Capture, Nurture, Close, Evangelize and Reactivate.

In practice a business uses GoHighLevel in place of several separate tools: a CRM, a texting platform, an email tool, a booking calendar, a funnel builder and a review tool. The homepage pitch is "all the tools you need to capture, nurture and close new leads into bookings, sales, reviews and repeat customers."

Who GoHighLevel is built for

GoHighLevel is built for agencies first, even when one business uses it for itself. Every plan is an agency account that holds sub-accounts, one per client. Starter at $97 includes 3 sub-accounts; Unlimited and Agency Pro allow as many as you want. The pricing page calls Starter "perfect for a single business owner or a new agency."

A business running its own team is told to use an Agency Sub-Account, the option HighLevel labels "This is my own account." The agency-only features (SaaS Mode, rebilling usage with a markup, white label) are for resellers. A sales team running its own business can mostly ignore them.

Is GoHighLevel priced per seat?

No. GoHighLevel isn't priced per seat: "On all plans, you get unlimited contacts and unlimited users (team members)." The plans differ by sub-accounts and agency features, so a team of 40 reps pays the same plan fee as a team of 4.

Bar chart of GoHighLevel plan fees a month: Starter $97 with 3 sub-accounts, Unlimited $297 with unlimited sub-accounts and basic API access, and Agency Pro $497 with unlimited sub-accounts and advanced API access
GoHighLevel plan fees a month, from its pricing page, checked October 21 and 22, 2026. Users and contacts are unlimited on every plan; calls, texts, email and AI are billed on top.

That flat price is why we liked it. We were on the agency plan, about $500 a month, for years for its advanced API access, and with usage on top it came to about $1,000 a month all-in. That's what we paid at the time, not today's price. What a team pays now, rate by rate, is in our GoHighLevel pricing breakdown.

What does GoHighLevel do for a sales team?

GoHighLevel moves a lead from first contact to a closed deal inside one account: a form or call creates the contact, a workflow texts and emails them, a calendar books the meeting, the deal moves through a pipeline, and an invoice or review request goes out at the end. Each step is something you set up.

A typical path for a sales team:

  1. A lead fills in a form on a GoHighLevel funnel, or calls a tracking number. The contact is created with its source.
  2. A workflow fires. In HighLevel's words, a trigger is "an event that sets your workflow into motion" and an action is the task that follows: send a text, send an email, assign a rep, add a tag.
  3. The rep replies from one inbox that holds texts, Messenger, Instagram DMs, WhatsApp and live chat.
  4. The lead books on a calendar, and reminders go out by text and email.
  5. The deal moves through pipeline stages to won or lost.
  6. An invoice or Text-2-Pay link takes payment, and a review request follows.

Calling works the same way. GoHighLevel's power dialer is a workflow step that creates call tasks for a rep to work through one by one. It's a call queue, not a parallel dialer, so phone-heavy teams often add a dialer on top.

GoHighLevel integrations

GoHighLevel connects to other software through an app marketplace, which HighLevel advertises as "500+ business tools", and through its own API. The Unlimited plan includes basic API access and Agency Pro advanced access. Apps get 100 requests per 10 seconds and 200,000 a day for each account they're installed on. That's plenty for syncing a sales team's data, as long as someone writes and maintains the connection.

GoHighLevel features

GoHighLevel's features cover five stages of a customer's life: capturing leads, nurturing them, closing the sale, turning customers into reviewers, and reactivating old leads. HighLevel publishes no single features page (gohighlevel.com/features returns a 404), so the five tabs on its homepage are the official GoHighLevel features list.

Every one of these sits under "All Core Features" on the pricing page, so even the $97 plan gets them. The plan tiers gate agency features, not sales and marketing tools.

Stage Main tools What it needs before it works
Capture CRM, forms and surveys, funnels and websites, chat widget, call tracking, missed-call text-back, social planner A phone number; your own domain is optional
Nurture One inbox, workflows, calendars, appointment reminders, ringless voicemail, mobile app Each channel connected, workflows built
Close Lead scoring, estimates, invoicing, payments, Text-2-Pay, courses and memberships A payment provider connected
Evangelize Review requests, AI review replies, review widgets, affiliate manager, communities Google Business Profile connected
Reactivate Broadcast texts and emails, Smart Lists, database reactivation templates, newsletters Lists built, texting registered

GoHighLevel CRM and lead capture

The capture tools put every lead into the CRM: forms, surveys and quizzes, funnels and landing pages, a website chat widget, call tracking numbers, and a missed-call text-back that texts anyone whose call you didn't answer. The Capture tab also lists Voice AI (HighLevel's AI phone answering agent), a social media planner, an ad manager for Google, Facebook and Instagram ads, and a prospecting tool.

Follow-up: inbox, workflows and calendars

The nurture tools are where a sales team spends its day. One inbox holds texts and social messages, workflows send the follow-ups, and calendars book and remind. Texting from a local US number needs A2P 10DLC registration first: you register your business and each texting campaign before messages go out, and HighLevel charges the fees even if the campaign is rejected.

Closing tools: payments, invoices and lead scoring

The close tools take payment without leaving the account: estimates and proposals, invoices, order forms, Text-2-Pay links and paid calendar bookings, through a connected payment provider such as Stripe. Lead scoring gives each contact an engagement score based on rules you set. Courses and memberships are here too, for businesses that sell training.

Reviews and win-back campaigns

The evangelize and reactivate tools turn finished jobs into reviews and old leads into new deals: automated review requests, AI-written review replies, review widgets for your website, an affiliate manager for referrals, and broadcast text and email campaigns to Smart Lists, which are saved filters that update themselves.

Agency features a single business can skip

Sub-accounts, snapshots, white label, SaaS Mode and rebilling exist so agencies can resell GoHighLevel. A snapshot copies one account's setup (workflows, funnels, calendars, forms, pipelines) into another HighLevel account, without contacts or conversations. Our GoHighLevel snapshots guide covers free and paid ones. SaaS Mode lets an agency sell HighLevel as its own software. None of it matters to a business running one sales team.

What GoHighLevel bills as usage

GoHighLevel bills calls, texts, email, phone numbers, AI and some workflow steps on top of the plan, from a prepaid wallet. Phone pricing matches Twilio's rates. These are HighLevel's published US rates:

Usage Rate
Local phone number $1.15 a month
Text message (SMS), out or in $0.00747 a segment, plus carrier fees
Outbound call $0.0166 a minute
Inbound call $0.01165 a minute
Email $0.675 per 1,000
Premium workflow step $0.01 each
A2P 10DLC registration $22.50 or $64 one time, plus $1.50 to $10 a month per campaign

HighLevel changes these rates from time to time, so check them on the day you budget. Worked bills for 10, 25 and 50 reps are in the pricing breakdown.

GoHighLevel AI

GoHighLevel AI is a set of separately billed AI tools: Conversation AI answers texts and chats, Voice AI answers and makes phone calls, Reviews AI drafts review replies, and Content AI writes copy and images. Each one is paid per use or covered by an AI plan of $50 or $97 a month per sub-account.

The AI is only as useful as what it can see. It knows what's inside the HighLevel account, so a team whose dialer, billing or job data sits somewhere else gets an assistant with half the picture.

Is GoHighLevel a CRM?

Yes, GoHighLevel is a CRM: it has contacts, custom fields, sales pipelines, a shared inbox, calendars, tasks and dashboards. HighLevel sells the GoHighLevel CRM as one part of a bigger "business operating system," and its own CRM page is titled "The Agency CRM designed for you."

The CRM starts empty. HighLevel's setup guide only suggests stage names such as New Lead, Booked Call and Closed; you build each pipeline yourself. You create the pipelines, the custom fields, the calendars and each inbox channel before reps can use them. Custom fields sit on either the contact or the deal, and can't be switched once created, so plan them first.

Is GoHighLevel a good CRM?

GoHighLevel is a good CRM for a team that will build it and keep it running, and a weak one for a team that wants a ready-made sales CRM on day one. It's versatile, and the flat price beats per-seat CRMs as a team grows. It was our favorite of the tools we've used.

The catches are the setup effort, usage charges on top, an account structure built around agencies, and a dialer that's a call queue. GoHighLevel is build-it-yourself: unless someone spends many hours building it right, it's not going to go well.

The full pros and cons, with support times and outages, are in our GoHighLevel review. If you'd rather hire the build out, GoHighLevel experts covers who does it and what they charge.

What you keep if you cancel GoHighLevel

If you cancel GoHighLevel, you keep what you exported beforehand, mainly a contacts CSV, and not the system you built. Once you cancel, access to contacts, conversations, calendars and funnels ends right away and workflows stop. Phone numbers and A2P registrations are deleted after 14 days, and account data is kept for 90.

Timeline of cancelling GoHighLevel: day 0 access ends and workflows stop, day 14 phone numbers and A2P registrations are deleted, day 90 account data retention ends

The contacts export is a CSV, admins only, one sub-account at a time, with only the latest note (cut to 255 characters) and no history of past texts and emails. Workflows, funnels and pipelines only leave as a snapshot, and a snapshot only loads into another HighLevel account. The terms of service (updated June 2026) say you "own or control all rights in and to all content you provide," and that every fee is non-refundable.

So the contacts are yours to take. The setup is rented. However much you pay GoHighLevel, or a consultant to build it out, it never becomes something the business owns. More on what any CRM lets you take out in CRM data ownership and export.

GoHighLevel CRM alternatives

The main GoHighLevel CRM alternatives for a sales team are HubSpot, Close and Pipedrive, which all charge per seat, or owning the system outright. Look elsewhere if you want a sales CRM that works on day one, a real power or parallel dialer built in, or a system that stays yours.

We compare them at 10, 25 and 50 seats in GoHighLevel alternatives, and the wider field is in our CRM software guide.

The third option is to own it. Cleanform replaces the stack of tools you've bolted together with one system built around how your team sells, and every build hands over the code, the data and the IP. One client's sales floor paid about $4,500 a month for eight closers across a per-seat dialer, a per-seat CRM, a scheduling tool and a Zap. Now it's one system they own, hosting runs about $300 a month, and an added seat costs $0 (case study).

It's typically less than you spend today, paid monthly, and the build payments have an end date. Here's how pricing works, and custom CRM development covers the build-or-buy call. If GoHighLevel and everything around it costs under $1,000 a month and it fits how you sell, keep it.

Frequently asked questions

What is GoHighLevel used for?

GoHighLevel is used to capture leads, follow up by text and email automatically, book appointments, track deals in a pipeline and collect reviews, all from one login. Agencies use it to run those systems for many clients; a single business runs its own team inside one account.

Is GoHighLevel a CRM software?

Yes. GoHighLevel includes a full CRM with contacts, custom fields, sales pipelines, a shared inbox and calendars. The CRM is one part of a bigger bundle, and it starts empty: you build the pipelines, fields and automations yourself.

Is GoHighLevel hard to learn?

GoHighLevel takes real setup work, because every pipeline, workflow and calendar starts blank and US texting needs A2P registration first. Teams that do well with it usually have one person who owns the build.

What are the downsides of GoHighLevel?

The main downsides of GoHighLevel are the setup effort, usage charges for calls, texts, email and AI on top of the plan, an account structure built around agencies, and that you rent it: cancel and the system you built stops with it.

How much does GoHighLevel cost a month?

GoHighLevel costs $97, $297 or $497 a month (Starter, Unlimited, Agency Pro), with unlimited users on every plan. Calls, texts, email and AI are billed on top from a prepaid wallet.

What is the GoHighLevel app?

The GoHighLevel app is HighLevel's mobile app, which its help center also lists under the LeadConnector name. Its home screen shows tasks due, pipeline value, unread messages and today's appointments.
